his week, the week of February 15-19, 2016, we will be looking at Grammy Losers!
We call it: "Who needs your stinking trophy anyway?!?!"
February 18, 2016
It is Grammy week and over the years there have been notable snubs from year to year and winners who probably didn't deserve to win or who went on to do nothing more in their careers. this week we'll glance at a few that the Grammys never thought were quite good enough to win at all.
The British Invasion, which traditionally is looked at as starting with the Beatles at the end of 1963, is a touchstone in the history of modern music.
Literally dozens of musical acts followed and changed the face of the charts in the states for a decade.
And while the Beatles did win two Grammys in the 60's other were not so fortunate:
The Rolling Stones first win came in 1994
Dusty Springfield had zero wins
Peter and Gordon...zero.
Chad and Jeremy...zero.
Spencer Davis Group...zero
Herman's Hermits...zero
The list goes on and on.
Today's song comes from a group that started in 1966 and received exactly zero nominations...let alone wins. despite writing songs for other bands along with their own hits, The Kinks may have been a bit underappreciated by the judges and have yet to get the recognition they more than deserve.
Despite a string of top ten hits in the mid to late 60's the Kinks never had a #1 song in the US and last reached the top ten in 1983.
Tomorrow: Popular on radio...check. Popular on television...check. Hit records and singles...check. Grammy wins...none.
