This week, the week of April 25-29, 2016, we will look at songs from real bands...for fake bands.

We call it:  "Don't look behind the curtain..."

April 29, 2016

Throughout musical history there have been those who never got their due credit.  Either they slaved away as session musicians making the stars sound good but never seeing the spotlight or the money from it, or they had their music used by other bands.

Sometimes their music was created to make a fake band.

These are some of those.

The only "fake" band this week to be an ACTUAL band...the Monkees benefited early on from great songs by established and up and coming artists!

While most people are familiar with the Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and Neil Diamond contributions there were plenty of others!

Like Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber!
Number 19, July, 1968

Neil Sedaka!
Did not chart.

Harry Nillson!
Did not chart.

Micahel Martin Murphy!
Did not chart.

Paul Williams!
#81, May, 1969

Carole King!
#62, October, 1968

And the list goes on and on!

That's it for this week!  New theme next week!
