This week, the week of March 21-25, 2016, we will be songs that make you think of Spring!

We call it:  "Spring Songs"

March 25, 2016

(You want the themes to having award winning titles?)

Spring has sprung!  Let's lighten the mood, throw open the windows and let some fresh air in as we celebrate the rebirth that this time year beckons us to!

(Even though it was snowing on the first day here!)

Okay...stick with me here.

I have a bit of a weird/demented side when it comes to music and I couldn't let a theme of Spring to go by without throwing in a classic from, of all people, Mel Brooks.

Of course the film is about a duo trying to make a play so awful it will fail and lose close so they can make off with the investors money (spoilers on a movie from 1968), this song is from the wonderful film "The Producers" which was later turned into a mega-successful musical for Broadway.

That's all for this week!

Spring means the end of the school year is nigh...and for those of certain age that also means it is prom season.

While today's entry is not necessarily limited to springtime it does apply to those young souls venturing out with their dates.

Released in 1960 by the Drifter with Ben E King on lead the song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three (nonconsecutive) weeks in the US.

The title song from the movie of the same name, today's song reached #4 in 1961 and makes our list because of the movies Spring break theme!

While Connie Francis continued to make the Hot 100 until 1969 her last top 40 hit was in 1964 with "Be Anything (But Be Mine)".

Recorded for the Abbey Road album in 1969 while he was still a member of the Beatles, George Harrison established his song writing ability with the lead in track for the "B" side of the album.

A number one hit and Grammy award winner for  South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela in its original instrumental form in 1968, today's song went all the way back to #3 when lyrics were added Friends of Distinction.

It was the groups highest charting single and one of two top ten singles they had with the other being "Love Me or Let Me Be Lonely" in 1970.

This week, the week of March 14-18, 2016, we will be looking at songs from groups after their lead singers left!

We call it:  "Splitsville 2"

March 18, 2016

In a reversal of last week's theme we'll take a look at some songs released after a group lost their lead singer or founder.

And in a weird and unfortunate turn of events personal circumstances kept me from posting on Friday!

New theme on Monday folks!

Thanks!
