This week, the week of April 4 - 8, 2016, we will be talking about rain songs!

We call it:  "All Wet"

April 8, 2016

The first weekend in April started with a real bang here in SW PA. 70 degrees to sleet (with lightning) and then a coating of snow followed by two days of rain!

So let's look at some songs about those April showers!

It's Friday so let's make this short and sweet!

When today's entry went to #1 in February of 1975 it was the artist's first number one since August of 1962...and first top 40 since June of 1963!

Neil Sedaka found new life with Elton John's Rocket Records and scored four more top 40 and one more #1 song in the year that followed!

That's it for the theme this week!  Something different next week!

In 1989 no duo or group was hotter than today's artist.

And by December of that year it all came crashing down as they were shown to be a sham.

I think we all know the story of the lip syncing and the returned Grammys.

"Blame it on the Rain" was the last of three consecutive #1 songs for Milli Vanilli, and the 4th of 5 top 5 hits in a row.

Today's song comes from an artist who left us way too soon.

Starting out as a song writer in the late 60's who penned hits for others, he found success on the country charts as a singer himself before seeing that lead to crossover success on the pop charts in the late 70's and early 80's.

"I Love a Rainy Night" was Eddie Rabbitt's first and only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 reaching the top of the chart in February, 1981.

He passed away in 1988 at the age of only 46.

Today's entry was the first of three top ten singles by the group, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December of 1967.

The band from Newport, Rhode Island, comprised of the Cowsill family members continued recording and touring into the early 70's with solo recordings and new groups continuing well into the 2000's.

Trivia:  John Cowsill sang back up vocals while with Tommy Tutone and can be heard on "Jenny (867-5309)".

While an obvious choice to start things off not everything has to be overthought!

Today's song reached #2 in June, 1971.

At the time it was the 4th consecutive top 3 hit for the Carpenters who went on to put 2 more in the top 3 and then 10 more in the top 15 including two more #1's by 1976.
