This week, the week of February 29-March 4, 2016, we will be looking at songs that were #1 on February 29th!

We call it:  "Hop to it!"

Doing a daily blog can present some difficulties.  Even with a theme each week, some weeks require more research than others.

Weeks like this are a pleasure!

Today's song was another one in the middle of a long run at number one.  Spending five weeks at the top spot in 1968 crammed in between The Lemon Pipers and Otis Redding.

This was the only top 40 song for Paul Mauriat & His Orchestra, although they did reach #60 a few months later with "Love in Every Room".

And in a year with hits from The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and The Doors among others that is still quite the accomplishment for a French orchestra leader and conductor!

That's it for another week!

Thanks for stopping by and there will be a new theme and five more songs next week!

Today's song was in the middle of a three week stay atop the Hot 100 on February 29th, 1992.

The first of three top 30 hits for Mr. Big (all coming off the second album), the group never had another top 40 song and split up in 2002 before reuniting to tour in 2009.

Today's song sat in the top spot for exactly one week in 1976, but was not the only top 40 hit for the band.

Obviously the theme from the ABC series of the same name.

Rhythm Heritage scored another #20 hit with the theme from another television series just four months later with the song "Keep You Eye On The Sparrow (Baretta's Theme)" Sung by Sammy Davis Jr.

In its fifth week of a seven week run today's song was one of three straight number one songs in a row in 1964.

The Beatles "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was knocked out of the top spot by "She Loves You" which was then toppled by "Can't Buy Me Love".

They had three more #1 songs before the end of 1964.

In its second of NINE weeks at the top spot of the hot 100 today's song is from 1960.

Percy Faith had a string of top 40 hits starting in 1950 and continued with many on the Adult Contemporary charts right through 1976 which was the year of his passing.
